Floorscapes began, in spirit, as a Western Australian flooring house: vinyl, carpet tiles, timber, epoxy, the unglamorous work of putting a surface under other people's lives. The domain still carries that trade memory. This rebuild keeps the subject and the Australian voice, and turns the site into what the trade always needed more of — a journal, not a brochure.
We write for people who are about to spend a painful amount of money on something they will look at every day for a decade. Homeowners in weatherboard Queenslanders and double-brick Californian bungalows. Architects specifying wet areas against the NCC. Property managers who have seen one too many swollen laminate edges. Readers who want metres, not marketing, and Australian English, not a Californian showroom script.
What we cover
Six desks, filed as topic hubs: timber floors, tiles and stone, vinyl, laminate and hybrid, finishes and care, rooms and Australian houses, and commercial floors. The complete article archive is also listed in one place, because Google should not have to guess our information architecture.
How we work
Pieces are long on purpose. A floor decision has a subfloor, a climate, a warranty clause and a cleaning habit attached to it. We cite Australian Standards and the National Construction Code where they actually govern the work, and we say when a product claim is marketing language rather than a wet-area system. Read the editorial standards if you want the method in writing.
Photographs on this site are Creative Commons or public domain, downloaded and hosted here, and credited both on the page and on the image credits page. We do not scrape living rooms off Pinterest.
Write with us
Floorscapes takes guest essays from people who have actually stood on a slab with a moisture meter. If that is you, read the write for us / guest post guidelines and send a pitch. Commercially motivated links, when we accept them, are marked with rel="sponsored". The desk is at contact the editors.
